Blue Angels
It seems that once a year there is a festival in Seattle, called the
Seafair. I understood that it's mostly about different marine things, but every year US Navy
Blue Angels show up too. They are an aerial demonstarion group flying around with F/A-18 Hornets doing nice maneuvers and stunts. I'm continuing to study Japanese, and the previous week before the show, the Japanese teacher invited the class to come to her house to see the air show. As her house is located in Mercer Island, and the show is around Lake Washington, that was perfect location to observe the show, so I was happy to accept the invitation.
The weather was just perfect for the show, and what a show they gave! 6 planes going around sometimes in tight formation, sometimes scattering around the skies. My biggest regret was that I haven't yet bought myself the Canon 1Ds MkII with some L-series optics. However, with my small pocket camera, I managed to get suprisingly good pictures. There was also some food present, especially the sushi was good. Although I like to try different foods, I've quite rarely eaten sushi. I really don't know why. My first try was when one of my Japanese friends made me several Japanese food. Otherwise I liked the sushi, but the seaweed part was not good. This time even the seaweed was good, and I noticed the same thing when I ate at a Japanese restaurant in Factoria Mall, called O.E.She. I had there
Spicy Tuna Rolls and they were really good even with the seaweed. So I guess the seaweed you can get in Finland is just not that good.
There was funny encounter when one of the guests arrived there. I had brought pack of
Salmiakki for other guests to try. It's a special Nordic candy, which almost no-one likes. As one Malaysian woman entered the room, she immidiately spotted the Salmiakki and asked the Japanese teacher where she had acquired Salmiakki, pronounciating the word
Salmiakki in very finnish fashion. As it turned out, she had studied for some time in Helsinki at HUT, the Helsinkin University of Technology.
All in all, it was a really nice day. Many thanks to Tokie-sensei for such generous gesture.
